A little bit about me…

Hello, my name is Luke and I work as a Carpenter remodeling homes in Portland Oregon.

Growing up I spent a lot of time doing two things. Being outdoors in the Mt. Hood wilderness and obsessing over action sports like skateboarding and bmx. Action sports created a passion for building wood ramps to launch myself off, and wandering in the forest instilled an interest in trees.

This unlikely pair of interests united when I went to study in the Department of Wood Science & Engineering at Oregon State University. Not only did I get to create furniture, functional art & buildings but I also studied the properties and characteristics to make a wood product that stands the test of time. Wood is such a great building material because it is lightweight, strong, renewable, stores carbon and is scientifically proven to lower our blood pressure and stress levels when we see it.

This passion to build unique products with wood has led to the creation of Yamhill Studio. My woodworking studio is in the basement of my old 1890’s house on Yamhill Street in SE Portland. You can rest assured that everything I make is made with the same care that I put into my very first ramp.
